About Orkney Islands
The Orkney Islands are an archipelago in northern Scotland, comprising about 70 islands, of which 20 are inhabited. Located off the northeast coast, Orkney features dramatic sea cliffs, Neolithic archaeological sites (designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and a strong Norse heritage from centuries of Viking rule. The population is around 22,000, primarily concentrated on Mainland, the largest island. Notable landmarks include Skara Brae prehistoric village, St Magnus Cathedral, and the Churchill Barriers.
